Preparation Before a Mammogram and Breast Ultrasound
- The ideal time for a mammogram is typically 7-14 days after your period has ended.
- For a mammogram, do not apply lotion, talcum powder, or deodorants/antiperspirants (including sprays) to your chest or underarm areas. These products can contain substances that may appear as abnormal calcifications on a mammogram, leading to misdiagnosis.
- If you are pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant, please inform the staff beforehand. Mammograms should generally be avoided during pregnancy; only an ultrasound will be performed in such cases.
