Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition that affects the prostate gland and impacts men’s quality of life.
It is found in approximately 60% of men at age 60 and nearly 90% at age 90. As the prostate enlarges, it compresses the urethra,
causing difficulty in urination, incomplete urination, frequent urination, waking up several times at night to urinate, or urinary incontinence.
The prostate can be likened to a donut with the urethra as the hole in the middle.
When the prostate enlarges, the hole becomes smaller, making it more difficult for urine to flow.
Common treatments include medication and surgery, specifically the TUR-P method. This surgical procedure often results in significant blood loss, requires several days of hospitalization for recovery, and one of the undesirable effects after surgery is the absence of ejaculate during sexual intercourse.
What is iTind?
iTind is a treatment for enlarged prostate by (reshaping) its internal structure.
The iTind device is a special tool that expands the narrow urethral openings within the prostate, allowing better urine flow.
This device is temporarily placed inside the prostate for only 5-7 days. The reshaping effect remains even after the device is removed.
How Does iTind Work?
The iTind treatment takes only about 15 minutes. It involves inserting a device into the urethra, with no incisions and no pain. The doctor administers IV sedation, similar to that used during a colonoscopy. There is no need for hospitalization or a urinary catheter; there may only be a small thread hanging out of the urethra for about 5-7 days. When a patient opts for this treatment, the doctor will assess their suitability through a physical examination. If the patient is not suitable for iTind, the doctor will recommend an appropriate alternative treatment.
Who is iTind Suitable For?
Men with mild to moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with a prostate volume of ≤ 60 ml.
Men with BPH who do not wish to be treated with medication or cannot tolerate the side effects of the medication.
Men who want to treat BPH without affecting their sexual function.
