Heat Stroke Cause
Exposure to high temperatures for a prolonged period leads to a disruption of the body’s temperature control system
Symptoms
- High body temperature, 40°c
- Dry, hot and red skin
- Dizziness and headaches
- Shallow breathing
- Rapid heartbeat
- Nausea
- Weakness or Cramps
- Seizures
- Unconsciousness
- No sweating despite an increase in temperature
Prevention
- Avoid outdoor activities
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, especially in hot weather
- Avoid alcoholic or caffeinated beverages
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
- Stay in shaded areas and wear sun-protective clothing/accessories
- Avoid sitting in an enclosed vehicle with the engine turned off
First Aid for Heat Stroke
- Move the affected person to an air-conditioned environment or a cool, shady area
- Remove any unnecessary clothing
- Wet his or her skin with cold water using a damp cloth or towel. Place ice packs under the person’s armpits, groin, and neck.
- Drink plenty of water and electrolytes when the patient is fully conscious
- Have the person lie down with their feet elevated
- Transport the person to a hospital as soon as possible.
Call 02-632-1000 immediately and give first aid until paramedics arrive.
Any delay seeking medical help can be fatal.
